Support Small Businesses In Knappa,

ONE STORY AT A TIME, DURING THE PANDEMIC OF 2020.

In a time when the world is collectively experiencing the same thing, It’s hard to hear each individual story. The purpose of this project is to share the story of individual business owners during the shutdown caused by the pandemic. We can do this together.   Thank you to Kallie Linder, owner of Salon Boheme for writing the story of Big Creek Coffeehouse.

Big Creek Coffeehouse at 42915 Old Hwy 30 opened 7 years ago by Heidi Bangs.  She started as a barista when she was just 17.  There she met and fell in love with her husband over the coffee counter.  It’s literally been a labor of love.
Since Covid things have shifted at BCC were as early mornings at the coffee shop were a busy rush as people are headed to work or taking kiddos to school, but with so many out of work and schools closed, that rush has significantly slowed down.
For the first two weeks of social distancing, Heidi changed from having two baristas working at a time to just one. In the last week though they’ve seen an increase and have been able to bring back the second barista.
They really miss seeing the kids that would stop before school.
All that is happening has presented new challenges as their team learns how to work together and still maintain distance. The employees have shifted without missing a beat and are diligent in maintaining proper space and wash, wash, washing their hands!

Owning my shop has been both challenging and invigorating. For a lot of my employees, the coffee shop is their first job. I’ve had the joy of witnessing tremendous growth in some of Knappa’s youth.
I’m lucky enough to have some of the most incredible customers who keep us smiling and laughing all day long.

Heidi at times does feel frightened when she sees other small businesses that have to be closed for an extended time or friends that are out of work.
She added, “We’re all in this together; when one community member is hurting, we’re all hurting.”
Big Creek Coffee has experienced generous pay it forwards from customers for emergency personnel, hospital workers, teachers, and bus drivers!
They serve Caffe Umbria coffee and have specialty blended drinks with Oreo cookies, Reese’s, butterfingers, or Andes mints.
We have made to order sandwiches and bagels with the bacon cheddar being a fan favorite. For faster service on sandwiches call ahead. 503-458-7097
Heidi and her team wish to thank everyone for all of their support during these historic times.
